Mbuvi Gideon Kioko alias Mike Sonko, flamboyant governor of Nairobi County has caught the attention of Twitter users across the world after he was featured in the New York Post,CNN,Daily Mail, Reuters and other international media outlets over his latest donation of food stuffs that included bottles of Hennesy.
Netizens on the app seem to have fallen in love with the governor as they Tweeted in full support of the governors actions. Others asked jokingly if they could move to Kenya.
Sonko sent the now infamous care package filled with Hennessy Cognac to the poor as he cited fake WHO guidance that alcohol kills the virus.
On 14th April he was captured on video quoting the World health organization as a source on his claims that alcohol kills Corona virus.
The governor also justified his action of including the brandy by terming it as a “throat sanitizer”
The French Cognac distiller Hennessy has however distanced itself from the Nairobi governor’s claim that their drink can help kill the virus and advised its consumers to follow stipulations set by the World Health Organization Min. of Health of Kenya.
“Hennessy would like to stress that consumption of our brand or any other beverage does not protect against the corona virus”
“In line with the world health organization (WHO) and
Min. Of Health of Kenya (MOH), Hennessy advices on washing hands regularly with soap and water or hydro-alcoholic gels, wearing face masks, practicing social distancing and staying at home” read a post on Hennessy’s official Twitter handle.
