Following the directive given by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday, primary schools, high schools and institutions of higher learning have today suspended learning activities.This is in a bid to curb the Corona Virus menace that has wreaked havoc across the globe. The government caved in to pressure from the public to call off activities that involve large public interactions and ban travel to areas that have been hardly hit by the virus.
By the time of going to press, higher learning institutions like Technical University of Mombasa and Multimedia University of Kenya had instructed learners to vacate their premises. Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology has suspended learning activities and ordered the students to evacuate by Thursday 19th March. Mount Kenya University has stopped lectures and instructed students to take their lessons through their online learning platform.
Parents of children in boarding schools around the country reported to the schools as early as 7:00 am to pick up their children. The government has further ordered schools to drop home students and also urged the learners to keep a clear record of all the interactions made during their travels.
A section of Kenyan parents has welcomed this action by the government to protect the children. This steps have been lauded by governors across the country with Nandi County governor also closing down all the athlete training camps across the county.
