Kenya’s award-winning band Sauti Sol has landed their first international recording deal with Universal Music Africa. Universal Music Africa is part of the world-renowned record label Universal Music Group. The band made up of Bien-Aime Baraza as the lead vocalist, Willis Chimano, Savara Mudigi and guitarist Polycarp Otieno alias Fancy Fingers becomes the first band to do so in Kenya.
Speaking about the deal, Universal Music Africa’s Managing Director Sipho Dlamini was optimistic that with UMA’s help Sauti Sol will introduce their unique blend of Afro-pop to new listeners everywhere.
“We look forward to working together with Sauti Sol to authentically celebrate Africa through music and to help introduce their unique blend Afro-pop to new listeners everywhere,” he said. The deal will see Sauti Sol enjoy wider distribution of their music in the global music scene something that Kenyan music has lacked for ages.
Sauti Sol joins other A-list musicians across Africa signed under the label like Diamond, Vanessa Mdee, Tekno Miles and Mr Eazi. This great fete also comes after the Afro-pop band was recently signed by an international talent agency, Africa Creative Agency.
Sauti Sol took to Twitter and Instagram to announce the good news to their fans and thanked them for being patient for the elite label deal.
Sauti Sol is currently working on their fifth studio album Midnight Train whose release is slated for this year.
