Kenyan Hip Hop sensation Papa Jones was yesterday night crowned the best Hip Hop artist for the year 2019 in the Soundcity MVP Awards held at Eko Convention Centre in Lagos Nigeria. The “Leave Me Alone” hit maker had been placed against other African Hip Hop heavy weights namely Sarkodie from Ghana, Kwesta from South Africa, Falz from Nigeria, BlaqBonez from Nigeria, Reminisce from South Africa, Medikal from Ghana and fellow countryman Nyashinski. He went on to share the news with his much elated fans in his official Instagram handle.


This accolade adds to his collection of trophies that he has gathered through his formidable rap career like AFRIMMA Best Rap Act Africa 2019.

The awards organised by Soundcity Africa which seeks to celebrate African artists was hosted by South African media personality Bonang Matheba and saw perfomances from Burna Boy, Diamond Platinumz, Joeboy, Big Tril, Wizkid etc… Burna Boy’s Killin Dem was awarded the song of the year. Burna Boy also cemented his place as the African Giant by taking home the African Artiste of the Year. The Best Pop award went to Joeboy and Rema was awarded as the Best New Artiste.
